{"id":2064,"date":"2018-01-25T12:08:31","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T12:08:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fpgonline.co.uk\/?p=2064"},"modified":"2023-09-19T10:47:11","modified_gmt":"2023-09-19T10:47:11","slug":"equity-release-booms-options","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fpgonline.co.uk\/index.php\/equity-release-booms-options\/","title":{"rendered":"Equity Release Booms \u2013 But What Are The Other Options?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"\">\n<p>Figures released this week the Equity Release Council show this form of lending reached record numbers in 2017 \u2013 more than \u00a33 billion was lent to home owners in this sector, growth of 42% on the previous year.\u00a0 The final quarter\u2019s lending alone totalled \u00a3833 million, with the last three months of 2017 seeing 10,000 customers sign over equity in their homes in exchange for a short-term cash injection.<\/p>\n<p>The report demonstrates that these increases meant the total number of new equity release plans agreed in 2017 was up 34% on 2016, from 27,563 to 37,037 \u2013 the highest total on record.<\/p>\n<p>People\u2019s retirement strategies are clearly evolving as, overall, according to the report; \u201cthe sector supported almost 67,000 customers during 2017, with 25,794 existing drawdown lifetime mortgage customers returning to dip into agreed reserves, and 3,867 existing customers agreeing further advances on either lump sum, drawdown or home reversion plans. The sector also saw 37,000 new customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Equity Release is just one of many considerations over-55s face when planning for their retirement years, however, there are many alternatives to this method of borrowing.
