{"id":2130,"date":"2018-04-17T12:11:14","date_gmt":"2018-04-17T12:11:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fpgonline.co.uk\/?p=2130"},"modified":"2023-09-19T10:44:36","modified_gmt":"2023-09-19T10:44:36","slug":"chestnut-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fpgonline.co.uk\/index.php\/chestnut-sunday\/","title":{"rendered":"Bushy Park Chestnut Sunday Takes Place On May 6th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One of Teddington&#8217;s most looked forward to events, the annual Chestnut Sunday Parade, takes place on Sunday 6 May this year.\u00a0The avenue of chestnut trees in Bushy Park was established during the reign of William and Mary (late 17th century) after Sir Christopher Wren conceived the idea of the mile-long Chestnut Avenue as a formal approach to Hampton Court Palace, and the \u00a0wonderful pink and white Chestnut blossom attracts big crowds year in, year out.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the parade starts at 12:30pm on Chestnut Avenue at Teddington Gate leading to the grass area in front of the childrens\u2019 playground where there will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Traditional Fairground Carousel &amp; other rides &amp; stalls<\/li>\n<li>Displays on:\n<ul>\n<li>Bushy Park\u2019s Wildlife &amp; History<\/li>\n<li>Pony rides<\/li>\n<li>Tree works<\/li>\n<li>The Friends of Bushy &amp; Home Parks<\/li>\n<li>Hampton Court Palace<\/li>\n<li>National Physical Laboratory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Arena displays showing:\n<ul>\n<li>horse riding<\/li>\n<li>historical military re-enactment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Concert Band<\/li>\n<li>Historical military groups &amp; classic vehicles<\/li>\n<li>A number of local charities<\/li>\n<li>Refreshment kiosks and marquee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The event will close at 4.30 pm<\/p>\n<p>Classic car entry is limited this year and permits have been allocated; no more can be accommodated.\u00a0\u00a0The main event for classic cars in Bushy Park is now the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hanworthclassic.org.uk\/\">Hanworth Classic<\/a> on Sunday 24 June 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Chestnut Avenue will be closed to through traffic from 12.15pm to 1.30pm on the day in order to allow the Parade. The car parks will also be closed to entry and exit during this period.<\/p>\n<p>Car parking is free and ample additional parking will be available on the grass of Lime Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>The parade will include: Horses from the City of London Police, Military and Classic Vehicles &amp;
